Strategic Industrial Research
Strategic Industrial Research, or SIR, is a major European corporation famous for its ground breaking advancements in (weapons/military?/space?/something?) technology.
Created in the year 2023 by the European Union to guide and oversee research and development involving key technologies. The corporation itself is relatively small and in reality does no research or manufacturing at all. Instead, SIR has a massive budget and great deal of influence over a vast network of universities, national research agencies, corporations and other institutions. All SIR equipment is built under a byzantine system of license agreements, which provides steady employment to the world’s top contract lawyers.
A key piece in the European military technological complex, 60% of the stock is owned by the Union with most of the remaining split between various megacorporations. Due to the strategic significance of SIR the European Parliament must approve all trading of the company’s stock. This is why shares of SIR are often considered the standard by which megacorporations measure their influence in the EU, although the prestige of the stock has been in decline during recent years.
